Potential Border Blockades at Schengen Borders

Status January 22, 2026:

From January 26, 2026, transport associations from Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina have announced plans to temporarily block all freight border crossings to Schengen countries. The background to these actions are ongoing issues related to the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which records the entry and exit of truck drivers and affects the number of permitted working days within the Schengen area.

Should these measures be implemented, significant disruptions to road transport to and from the affected countries are to be expected. The protest action is currently planned for up to seven days, but may be ended earlier if a political agreement is reached.

We are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with our local teams and the relevant authorities and will keep you informed about further developments.
