The Polish government has decided to install a toll system for trucks over 3.5 tonnes and buses from 9 seats. The implementation is planned in 4 steps and starts with 01 July 2011.
In the first step, the entire current highway system and all highways will become toll roads. By 2014, the network of toll roads is extended and will comprise approximately 8,000 fee-kilometres of road when finished.
The Polish road toll system is based on microwave technology, comparable to Austria. The amount of the toll depends on mileage, emissions standard as well as the categorization of the road network and is up to 0.13 euros per kilometre.
