City toll in Budapest

Valid for the Budapest town area since March 2008, the driving ban for lorries with a total weight of more than 12t has been extended further.
The present regulation that the main roads in Budapest are exempt from the driving ban will expire at the end of the year. By that time the bypass motorway ”M0” will be complete and shall be used by transit traffic.

Lorries with origin or destination points in the city area of Budapest have to obtain an appropriate permit valid only for a specified lorry (registration number). Issuing the permit (validity: a day, a week, a month or a year) takes two workdays on average.

The costs of the permit depend on the period of validity and the number of city zones – Budapest has been divided into eight city zones now. A one-year permit for one zone for a 32t-lorry costs HUF 420.000, - (about € 1.750,-). An additional administration fee of HUF 2.000, - (about € 8,5 ) is also charged.
