Hungary: new 200-Forint-coin in circulation
09.2009
Since the middle of June 2009 new coins worth 200 HUF have come in circulation. They will gradually replace the old 200-Forint-banknotes. The new 200-Forint-coin is made of bimetal, showing yellow metallic alloy on the outside and a silvery one on the inside. The coin depicts the Chain Bridge.
Replacing the banknote by a coin was mainly done for economic reasons. It is the long-term goal of the Hungarian Central Bank to make later-on switching to the Euro easier for the population. The green 200-Forint-banknote remains official means of payment till November 15th, 2009.
