Gebrüder Weiss: New partner in Greece
Frequency of departures to Athens and Thessaloniki increases in 2006 with the freight forwarding company Omega.
As of 15 January 2006, the Austrian transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss (GW) has a new European surface transport partner: The Omega International Transport SA with headquarters based in Athens. The target for 2006: two to three groupage transport connections from each platform every week.
Omega is one of the leading companies in Greece in the logistics and European part-load traffic sector and generated revenues of 40 million euros in the last financial year. The family-owned company was founded in 1970 with headquarters based in Athens. This new Gebrüder Weiss cooperation partner has six branches and seven warehouses with a total area of 30,000 m2 in its native market, as well as a haulage fleet of 60 vehicles.From 15 January 2006, the new partnership with Omega will mean that GW can offer up to two group transports to and from Athens and Thessaloniki per week for Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic via the GW platform branches in Altenrhein (CH), Memmingen (D), Linz (A), Vienna (A) and Dunaharaszti (HU). ”At each platform we will be able to implement at least one additional departure every week. GW customers will now be able to plan the exchange of goods with Greece more flexibly,” explains Helmut Pirker, the System Manager in charge.
Greater transparency
Omega and GW operate on a direct data network. Seamless electronic shipment tracking is already a standard procedure at Omega. ”GW customers will soon have direct electronic access to the scanned proofs of delivery in Greece as well,” reveals Pirker, enthusing about the improved quality standard of transports in Greece.
100 locations around the globe
Gebrüder Weiss has its headquarters based in Lauterach in Vorarlberg (Austria) and employs a total workforce of approximately 3,500 people at over 100 locations worldwide. In the last financial year the Austrian logistics company generated revenues amounting to 708 million euros.
