After a construction period of one year, Gebrüder Weiss’ new logistics terminal was put into operation in Maria Saal on 3 August 2009. Regional Manager Peter Schafleitner says, ”These investments display a clear commitment to the industrial location of Carinthia and create the capacities we require for becoming the leading logistics provider in Carinthia.” The new 30,000 m² plot accommodates 2,500 m² of logistics space, 3,500 m² ultramodern cargo handling areas and 1,300 m² office areas. Operating Manager Markus Ebner explains "This construction gives us enough capacity in Carinthia to provide our customers with complete logistic solutions – from parcels to full vehicle loads and from storage to individual order selection." GW has invested more than a total of 8.5 m Euros in the location of Maria Saal. New building creates jobs in the region Expansion is possible The Gebrüder Weiss group
With its new terminal, GW has not only increased its logistic capacities in Maria Saal but has also created about 10 to 12 jobs in the region. According to Markus Ebner, additional staff requirements must be expected once the capacities of the logistics terminal are fully utilised. What is more, GW continues to focus on the education and advanced training of young staff members in Maria Saal and will employ a total of 6 apprentices – representing 10 per cent of the work force – in Carinthia in and after August 2009.
All the current GW warehouses in Carinthia are concentrated at the new terminal which has a direct railroad connection for rail traffic. ”Our customers will benefit from the more efficient and optimised processes and from the concentration of logistic resources at one and the same location”, says Bernhard Allmann, Maria Saal Traffic Manager. The plot has been chosen to allow for expansion so that, in the years to come, another logistics and cargo handling area of more than 9,000 m² can be added if necessary.
The Gebrüder Weiss Group has its head office in Lauterach (Vorarlberg) and employs more than 4,500 staff members at 135 locations all over the world. GW is represented in the Central and Eastern European countries of Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania, and Ukraine. For the 2008 fiscal year, the logistics enterprise generated a turnover of 985 million euros.
