GW´s new location in Skopje, situated in the northern part of Macedonia and thus lying in the economic and political heart of the country, now guarantees smooth handling of shipments to and from the Balkan region. With regard to the current EU-report on progress, which certifies Macedonia impressing progress, GW´s entering this market is an important step for the future.
Since 12 October 2009 Gebrüder Weiss has been present in Macedonia with its own location. At the moment six employees run business in Ilinden near Skopje. Thomas Moser, Regional Manager South-eastern Europe explains, ”By this step we can offer our customers continuous quality and more service to and from Macedonia. Furthermore our own representation enables us to position our GW-services much better on the local market.”
Organizationally Gebrüder Weiss Skopje is assigned to the Bulgarian organization in Sofia. One month after the operational start four traffics from Sofia and two traffics from Vienna are offered every week. Marieta Grigorova, operative manageress of the Bulgarian branch says, ”I am convinced that our local manager Saso Dimoski will manage the market entry very quickly due to his extraordinary zeal.” Operating in Macedonia now, GW takes over customs clearance and distribution for well-known customers such as HP, Daikin, Grundfoss, Bosch and others.
Thomas Moser sees a lot of development potential in Macedonia, especially in distribution and procurement from and to Western Europe. According to the regional manager the branches warehouse logistics and logistics solutions will gain more importance when western companies move into the region. For the medium term GW has planned to expand the range of services and start their own logistics plant.
It is indeed the latest EU-progress report which again moves Macedonia a bit closer to the European Union, thus making it an attractive future market for companies.
The EU-Commission, in fact, recommends taking up accession talks with Macedonia, which has already held official EU-candidate status since 2005. So far negotiations have not been started yet because quarrelling with Greece over the name was considered the biggest obstacle.
