GW intensifies business activities in Eastern Europe

At the press conference held in Vienna to present the business figures the Gebrüder Weiss management already announced the target for 2008 and the following years: the expansion of the Eastern European network. This promise is met by opening a new location in Hajduböszörmeny in Eastern Hungary, by moving to the new terminal in Arad/Romania and by extending the partnership with Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.

At the press conference in May Wolfgang Niessner, CEO Gebrüder Weiss, announced that company planned to invest € 50m in weaving a tighter GW-network. The first projects have already been accomplished. ”Thereby we want to offer our customers solutions within our seamless organisation. ”The focus is set on an efficient logistics network which is based on a common corporate culture”, Wolfgang Niessner explains.

On October 1 the new location was opened in Hajduböszörmeny near Debrecen. On a handling area of 500m2 the small team under the direction of Miklos Varga takes over collection and delivery for parts of the Hungarian postal areas 3 and 5 and the complete area 4. For the future the focus is clearly set on acquiring new customers in this region in order to establish scheduled services to and from the region.

Also on October1 two of the biggest private transports and logistics companies of the European LCL market, Gebrüder Weiss and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, announced to intensify their longstanding partnership. The cooperation has been extended to Southern and Eastern Europe, making Hellmann the new partner for the daily part-load traffics to Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Moldavia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary. The extension of the partnership focuses on the use of the regional core competences of both companies – the daily direct and gateway traffics.

The GW-network is also expanded in Romania. While in Bucharest the new terminal is being built flat out, on November 3 the Romanian Gebrüder Weiss team from Arad moved to a modern office in the logistics park ”Cefin”, also situated in Arad. Moving became necessary as the traffics to and from the region increased significantly. The new office lies in a modern logistics park in the south of Arad and offers good access to the traffic infrastructure.
